The Xth International Congress for Finno-Ugric Studies
The X International Congress for Finno-Ugric
Congressus decimus Internationalis
In accordance with the resolution of the International Committee
for Finno-Ugric Congress the 10th International
Congress for Finno-Ugric Studies will be held in Yoshkar-Ola in Mari El
Republic of the Russian Federation on August 15-21, 2005.
The following scientific trends will be presented at the
A - "Linguistics"
B - "Ethnology and Folklore Study"
C - "Literary Study"
D - "Archaeology, Anthropology and Ethnic History"
In the framework of the main theme of the Congress plenary
section presentations will take place. In addition to it symposia,
round table talks, workshops, as well as poster sessions and
recreational events will be held.
The Congress will be arranged by Mari State University together
with Committee of Finno-Ugric Studies of the Russian Federation,
Russian Academy of Sciences, Fund for the Support of
Finno-Ugristics of Mari El Republic.
Yoshkar-Ola (prerevolutionary name - Tsarevokokshaisk) was
founded in 1584 as a result of joining of the Mari land to Russia.
Yoshkar-Ola is the capital of Mari El
Republic, which was
founded on the 4th of November in 1920. In 1930 Mari
Language, Literature and History Scientific Research Institute
named after V.M.Vasilyev (MLLHSRI), in 1931 Mari Teachers' Training
Institute named after N.K.Krupskaya, in 1932 the Volga-region
Forestry Institute (at present - Mari State Technical University)
were founded. Mari State University was founded in 1972. It
consists of 9 faculties, 8 thousand students enrolled there. In
2002 the Institute of Finno-Ugristics was founded. The scientific
journal "Finno-Ugristics" is issued by Scientific Center for
Finno-Ugric Studies, which functions at Mari Language, Literature
and History Scientific Research Institute named after V.M.Vasilyev
Alongside with Mari State University the Congress will take
place at Political Centre and MLLHSRI. The participants
of the Congress will be accommodated at the hotels and students'
hostels. The participation fee will be 200 euro. It includes
admittance to all scientific and cultural events at the Congress
and all congress publications. You will be informed on details of
payment in the second circular.
The working languages of the Congress are: English, Russian,
German, French; Mari, Finnish, Hungarian, Estonian if it is
